“Working hard is important, but there is something that matters even more…believing in yourself.”
-Harry Potter
“The four Houses are called GryffinLord, Hufflemuffed, Ravenball, and Slytherinthere. Each House has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding managers and haters. While you are at Ballwarts, your triumphs will earn your House points, while any rule breaking will lose House points. At the end of the year, the House with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour. ONE hopes each of you will be a credit to whichever House becomes yours.”
In the early days of Liga, the founders handpicked Fantasy Managers for their Houses. When the founders worried how fantasy managers would be selected after their deaths, The Special One took his trucker hat off and each founder “put some brains” into it, thereby creating the Sorting Trucker Hat to choose future Managers for each House. At the beginning of each fantasy year, the magical Sorting Trucker Hat was placed on each new manager’s head during the Sorting Ceremony. The Sorting Trucker Hat announced the House that the new manager was to join. Every so often the Sorting Trucker Hat would sing of mortal peril in Liga….
In 2026, it began to sing:
In the times of old, when I was new,
And Ballworts barely started,
The founders of our fantasy school
Thought never to be parted
United by a common own goal
They had the selfsame yearning
To make the world’s best fantasy school
And pass along their learning
Now pay no mind to all the haters
Keep calm and protect your sanity
Jesus returns as the holy crusader
And takes you Inside the Fantasy!!!
FROM DESTINY TO DYNASTY
Oops!…ONE did it again. ONE played with your heart, y’all got lost in the game, oh, baby, baby Jesus. Okay, okay…Jesus recognizes that Liga may be losing its faith in the Special One. And after being chipped 13 times last year, maybe Jesus is losing the message too.
But no more! Back on brand, To Liga’s foundation, Back to the message! And that message is: Jesus loves Liga, and every manager in it. And this will sound disingenuous, especially coming from probably Liga’s 2nd most obnoxious personality, but Jesus would have been happy for any manager (including Jeff) that created Liga’s first dynasty. Jesus swears on the souls of your children that this is true.
That’s why Harry Potter is the perfect theme for Liga this year. Like Liga, Harry Potter is timeless. A story of power of choice; that our choices matter much more than our abilities. A story of love over hate; that our true strength comes from friendship, loyalty, and love rather than pure power. And the Liga parallels are uncanny. Does this sound familiar? It was Voldemort’s hatred for Potter, the “Chosen One,” that made Potter the “chosen one” in the first place. By attempting to kill Harry, Voldemort transferred a piece of his own soul into him and branded him as his destined rival. It sounds familiar doesn’t it (spoiler: Jeff is Voldemort & Jesus is Potter) Has Jesus read the books? Of course not. Has Jesus seen the movies? No way. But AI does a good summary, and Potter fans can’t shut the fuck up, so ONE can draw the comparisions.
Liga is its collective history. Its magic comes from the stories, from the old, the strange, the familiar, and the new. A good example of the new, is Randall fucking Herrington. Based on his past, Randy was picked by this very publication last year to finish bottom table. However, Randy penned his own narrative for Liga, by scorching Liga during the back half of the season. He went toe-to-toe with the champ, taking the matter to week 36, before barely missing out on the bracelet itself. A good example of the strange, is Randy’s little brother, Liga’s Voldemort Jeff Herrington. Jeff maintained his puzzling character arc that he started two seasons ago, finally fulfilling his obsession with winning his first outright points title. Jeff only had to sacrifice his entire fantasy legacy to achieve it (Not to mention a $100.00 bill). Some stories stayed familiar. Brian Bannered, and Tony disappointed. While some seem to be Boyleing beneath the surface (a watched pot never Boyles and nobody is watching) (So watch out!).
In summation, Harry could not have defeated evil without the support of his friends. And for that, Jesus is grateful. Let’s keep Liga’s magic, and make sure that Voldemort never returns…
And now the Magical Trucker Hat…
House Hufflemuffed– All schools have their cliques. The managers of this house are all new kids (Diego is back from juvie). And like every healthy school environment, the other houses are going to pick on them and steal their lunch money. It’s up to them to stand up to the bullies.
Damn Yankees: “What is Mark’s mate’s name?” –”Mark Mates.”
“Yeah, what’s his name?” – “Mark Mates”
“Yes, Who is he?” –”Mark’s mate is Mark Mates. You talking about his wife?”
“No, his friend, mate, as the English say it.” –“What?”
“Mate as in friend. Who is he?” -“Mark Mates.”
“Yeah, who is he?” – “His mate is a woman.”
“Shut-up! Just get whoever to send their $150.” –“Who, Mark Mates?”
Dr. J: Don’t look now, but Liga went woke. Special One was told that this could be controversial. But MAGA can’t pull funding to an independently funded organization. Besides, capturing the female demographic could be huge for growth projections over the next few years. Fantasy is a mental game, and a lady can compete just as good as a man. Green money is clean money. And Jesus always appreciates when a woman picks up the check. “Waiter, please charge the Lady’s card a $150.00”
Pooponastick: The original bad boy of Liga is back! Liga’s big signing came after extended contract negotiations, which included a mixture of begging, bribery, and blackmail. Special One has pinned his reputation to the wall, promising Liga that Casper won’t haunt us in the second half of the season. It is much harder to ghost in a Liga where you can bank 5 transfers. At its worst, don’t draw poop on week 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 & 36 (the math checks out), because he will have a new team each time.
House Ravenball– This house is filled with the kids that signed your yearbook, but you can’t remember their face. Oh, that’s right. They were in the band. What instrument did they play? Who knows & who cares? At least they are available, and their credit cards are never declined.
Table Scraps: What does Jeff and Justin talk about at the water cooler? It can’t always be about the Law. That would get old. Golf? Football? Jesus has no clue. It definitely is not Fantasy English premier league soccer based on Table Scraps Liga Legacy. And if you do discuss fantasy, DO NOT TRUST the advice you are being given. Voldemort is always lurking
Bourbon & Cruyff: Finally, they got that wreck off the highway. Only one casualty, the Car Ramrod brand. Personally, Jesus supports managers that continue to evolve the brand. But naming your team after a type of alcohol, after driving your franchise like you were drunk, is not the best optics. Better take out insurance on this new team. The deductible is $150 dollars.
I Hate Fantasy: Jesus asked Gemini who was the biggest goof at Hogwarts and Neville Longbottom’s name came up, citing that Longbottom struggles with clumsy spellwork, forgetting things with his Remembrall, and panicking around professors. Now substitute the word trades for spellwork, mind for Remembrall, & computers for professors, and Liga has its very own Neville Longbottom. (you let the Special One down Tony. He had you at your highest ranking last year, and you gave ONE a ninth place finish!)
House Slytherinthere– This house is filled with the Bullies of Liga. These former champions may appear formidable. But when challenged by the strongest house, they often fold like their house was made of cards. Special One predicts that one member of this house, and one member only, will push house GryffinLord to the edge. Ultimately like Lord Voldemort, they will be destroyed by their own rebounding killing curse. (Note: these managers are in thematic order. If the One had to pick one, The Wizard would be his bet).
Regan Slayyyter: A points fend, the Wizard uses the scientific method to maximize his team’s magic. House Slytherinthere is exactly where he belongs. He is always lurking in the shadows, every once in a while being seen in the real world. Jesus texts him twice a year. First time, to send Liga’s code. The 2nd time to send (or ask for) his Venmo. That’s it. He is Liga’s true neutral character. But his capacity for chaos is undeniable.
OBoyleRules: Mark reminds Jesus of that Mike Tyson vs. Paul fight. After years of watching Tyson youtube videos, knocking people through the ropes, Jesus was so excited to see Tyson back in the ring. But in that basement bar in Manhattan, all Jesus saw was an old, tired fighter that could barely hold his arms up. Jesus kept waiting for Tyson to knock that prick back to doing prank videos, but it never came. This is the last year Boyle is placed as high as he is on the list. Throw one more God Damn Hay-maker please!
Hater Gonna Hate: As stated above, this House is filled with former champions. However, the past two years has Jesus questioning whether Haters can be even considered a former champion. As far as Jesus is concerned, Haters is now just Jeff, unworthy of the Haters Gonna Hate brand.
The true Haters built the very foundation of the mountain that Jesus sits atop. When Jesus was a wee baby, Haters & Mr. Money were experimenting & pushing the very limits of the markets, putting together super teams that dogwalked Liga during the back half of the seasons. When Mr. Money couldn’t keep up and retired, Haters reached the pinnacle of his power, the Special One himself, vying to become Hater’s apprentice.
And the haters hated. Always crying about how they finished with more points in Liga at the end of the year. Haters would rightly point out that in a Head to Head Liga, it’s about the W’s at the end of the year. Haters wrote the book on market manipulation, chip strategy, and shit talking, taking it as far as it could go, until he cracked Liga in two, and ran off our Beloved Ken Fletcher.
After a multitude of banners, and two Bracelets, Haters crowned himself the greatest Head to Head champion. And in the young Special One’s eyes, there was no argument. When Fantasy expanded to double chips, and banking transfers, a head to header’s dream, the scales clearly tipped in favor of the H2H’s. Surely, Haters would be unstoppable.
But that didn’t happen. Instead, Haters stepped off his throne, placed his crown on his apprentice’s head, and faded away. Whole tomes of Haters former wisdom is archived and studied by Jesus, who puts Haters teachings into practice every year. The doppelganger before us, is not Haters, but just Jeff, and he stands on top of Haters Gonna Hate’s ashes. Wake up Haters! You are under a Spell!
House GryffinLord: Values: Courage, bravery, determination, and standing up for what is right. Motto/Saying: “Where dwell the brave at heart, their daring, nerve and chivalry set Gryffinlords apart.” Symbolic Animal: A lion, representing strength and courage. Colors: Scarlet and gold, which correspond to the element of fire. This House represents the best. Herminone, Ron & Harry will take the golden bracelet for House GryffinLord.
Los Sucios SC FC: Liga’s very own muggle, Randy is the Head to Head King’s new apprentice. His new name, Los Sucios (“the dirty ones”), is perfect branding. He was dirty last year, as he was not afraid to get in the muck, and start burying teams. Untethered to chip hoarding, and unlucrative obsessions with world rankings, Randy was the hottest team during the back half of the season. As a fan, Jesus documented Randy’s under the radar rise, as he was firmly committed to playing the beautiful game. If the spirit of Haters ever comes back, it will find its home here.
MLS Fantasy Champ: Don’t let the Point GOAT fool you. He loves points, and has put more points on the board than any man (or woman) in Liga history. But he has a little of that dawg in him too. He used multiple chips against Jesus last year, not always when the points pundits were suggesting. Jesus cannot be sure anymore, if Brian will make his decisions based on the optimal long term point haul, or for the W. If Brian is swayed by who he is playing in Liga, even just a little bit, then Ron might just win, and get the girl.
Dynasty Jesus: Thy Kingdom Come! Thy Will be done! Liga is at full capacity. Diversity is up. Hate is down. And Liga’s coffers are bursting ($1,800). The Pax Romana has returned to the realm. And if Ballwarts wants a new headmaster, then come and fucking get it!
For it is written….
